Signum Hotel Operations was founded by a professional team that have decades of experience running things behind the scenes.
Signum was formed by Erich Graf and Phil Algar. They have been working together for 14 years providing hotel services to the passenger vessel industry in various locations worldwide.
Operating from head office in St. Andrä, Austria and a second office in Perth, Western Australia, Erich and Phil are able to stay in constant contact with their hotel teams. They both travel regularly on client vessels, providing hands on support and management for the vessel charterer and the Signum team.
Operations and Business Development
Erich from St. Andrä, Austria, speicalises in Operations and Business Development. He has been involved in the passenger ship industry for 30 years. His career has been entirely in hospitality and has included working on cruise vessels such as Vistafjord, Sagafjord, Queen Elizabeth 2 and Bremen (formerly Frontier Spirit).
In 1991 he was asked by a newly formed expedition company to supply hotel services for voyages to the North Pole and Antarctica. Erich spent several years developing a complete hotel service for mulitple vessels and headed the hotel team providing administration, personnel, accounting and logistics.
Operations and Personnel Management
Phil trained as Chef in his home country of New Zealand. He further developed his skills as a Chef working in resort hotels and restaurants in Australia and the South Pacific.
Moving to Perth Australia in 1988 and looking for adventure Phil joined the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition (ANARE) and spent time as Chef on both Davis and Macquarie Island Antarctic research stations. Returning to Perth in 1992 he joined a leading Perth catering company as Director of Operations.
He then went onto to develop a career in all aspects of hotel services onboard a range of vessels. This included working in the polar regions, South Pacific, Caribbean and speciality voyages catering for the dive programs on the M/V Titanic and batteship Bismarck.
Purchasing and Supply
Jutta Muller has recently joined us at Signum. Jutta's hotel career has seen her working worldwide. She completed her hotel training in Germany before leaving to work 7 winter seasons in Zermatt, Switzerland.
Jutta then went on to work as Bar Manager for Hapag Lloyd doing world cruises on the vessel M/V Columbus, followed by several seasons on vessels in Antarctica and the Arctic. Jutta is based in the Australian office and is involved in purchasing and beverage supply.
